Mea Shearim tour
Walls of Holiness – A Tour to Mea Shearim Neighborhood.
Mea Shearim—the fifth neighborhood built outside the Old City walls—invites visitors to step back in time and experience what a 17th-century Jewish town looked like.
We will discuss the ideology behind the voluntary segregation and insularity, as well as the clothing, language, customs, food, and laws of ritual purity and impurity. We will explore head coverings, immersion in the *mikveh* (ritual bath), and *pashkevilim* (street posters). Topics will also include Haredi women, charitable institutions, attitudes toward the State of Israel, Neturei Karta, the Jerusalem Saction, Hasidim versus Lithuanians, and the value of Torah study.
Modest dress is required. Women: Dresses or skirts below knee level, and sleeves reaching the elbows.
